Rental Minimum rental period is one day and maximum 45 days.

Credit Card Required
No rentals can take place without the main driver having a major credit card present.

Rental Extension
Should a renter wish to extend the rental, it is recommended that such request is made at a Budget location as soon as possible so that every effort can be made to accommodate the request. Any extension of rental must be paid at local rates to the nearest Budget location prior to the extended rental period commences.

Car Delivery
Budget will do the outmost to provide the vehicle at the agreed time and to ensure that it meets the requirements made upon it. However, Budget can not provide any compensation if the car delivery is late according to reservation. All rentals are on a 24 hour basis and the renter will be compensated by late return instead.

Upgrades

Damage, theft and accidents
In the event of a car breakdown, theft or accident the Budget emergency number (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) must be contacted immediately. In the event of an accident, the police must be called to the scene so that a correct and official police report can be made. If damages occur to the vehicle while it is stationary and the driver is absent (e.g. car is parked), the driver must go to the nearest police station to report the damage. The same procedure applies should the vehicle be stolen.

Drivers
Driver’s License
The driver must present a valid driver’s licence held for a minimum of one year at the time of rental. An International Driving Permit (IDP) / International Driving License (IDL) is also required if the national driver’s licence is not in the Roman script. Vehicles for nine persons and more require a driving licence D or a B licence which has been issued before March 1988.

If there is more then one driver, an additional fee of 1.500 ISK per rental applies. All extra drivers must be registered on the rental agreement at the time of rental for them to be insured. Unregistered drivers are fully responsible for all damages that happen while they are driving. For further information regarding driver’s licence requirements please refer to the section “Driver’s Licence.”

Driving restrictions
Note the driving restrictions in Iceland. Budget 2wd vehicles are not allowed to be driven on roads marked F on official maps as well as Kjölur (Road no. 35) and Kaldidalur (Road no. 550). Should these restrictions be ignored, all insurance (Third Party Liability, CDW, TP, PAI), if accepted, shall be deemed, null and void. The driver will be held fully responsible in case of accidents or collission, including the cost of repair of the damaged vehicle and the cost of towing.

Extra services

If the car is not returned with a full tank a charge of ISK 225 per litre applies.

Touring Maps and Street Directories

Break Down Assistance
Break down service is available 24 hours a day under the phone number +354 824 4000. Please note that after hours there is only one person on duty in the summer of 2008. Should more than one emergency occur at the same time a Budget representative will be called on duty but that might take some time. So help might not be available immediately.

Airport Service Charge
An Airport Service Charge will apply to all rentals out of Keflavík International Airport. It currently is ISK 2.500 per rental.

If a customer arrives after hours a fee of ISK 2.500 applies.

Availability is based on the location restrictions and the vehicle type being taken one-way. The one-way fees are as follows: From Reykjavík to Keflavík ISK 2.000 From Keflavík to Reykjavík free of charge Between all other locations ISK 10.000

Customer Service
To Budget, customer satisfaction is most important. With dedicated employees any customer service request will be answered promptly and professionally. All inquiries should be sent to customerservice@budget.is

Accidents and damages
We at Budget care for the safety of your customer. We do emphasise preventive propaganda. Driving in Iceland is not like driving on American highways or the Autobahns of Europe. All our front desk employees are trained to communicate to your customer at the beginning of his rental what to be aware of, how to drive and a quick overview of those major things that are different about driving in Iceland. In addition there is information handed out with the rental agreement as well as various safety signs in the car. On our key tags there is an emergency number to call which we point out to the customer. Renters are required to read the insurance terms and conditions carefully. If the customer has a small damage to the car he is required to report this to us immediately. At Keflavík airport there is personnel at the parking garage to go over the car with the customer at the time of return. With our new return facilities this process will be more speedy and professional for the benefit of all.

Report an accident
In the event of an accident, the police must be called to the scene so that a correct official Police Report can be made. In addition, the Budget emergency number must be called to report the accident.

Transport of a damaged car
Transporting a damaged car costs ISK 160 per km for the renter. There is always a minimum cost of ISK 35.000 which the renter must cover.

Car Replacement
Please note that replacing a damaged car with new car is subject to availability. Sometimes replacing the car with the same vehicle as the damage vehicle is not possible. Such action by Budget does not constitute a breach of the contract and does not entitle the renter to any refund. If no alternative vehicle is available, Budget has no liability for refund any cost inferred by the renter.

Tires
Tires are always the renter’s liability. If tires go flat the renter is responsible for replacing the tire with same pattern and size at the nearest tire garage. If there is no tire with same pattern available the renter is required to call the Budget emergency number for instructions. Budget does not offer an emergency service for replacing flat tires.

Underbody
The renter can never be insured against damage to the underbody of the car. All damages are to be reported immediately to the Budget emergency number.

Water Damage
The renter is always responsible for all damages caused by water, for example when crossing rivers.

Cost of damage
All damages are payable at the end of the rental. The renter is responsible to inform Budget about any damages that have occurred to the car. Budget may debit the renter’s bank or credit card for the rental charge and other costs payable by the renter, such as payments in respect of damage to the vehicle while in the possession of the renter. The time of payment and whether it is to be made in lump sum shall be the sole discretion of Budget. This right shall remain unaffected for 6 months following the return of the vehicle to the Budget. The cost of damage is determined by a price list available at all Budget locations and will be collected according to the price list. In the case of major damages not covered by insurance, e.g. water damage, the cost will be estimated by an authorized garage.

Vehicle Condition Report (VCR)
With every rental the customer gets handed over a Vehicle Condition Report. On the VCR all scratches and dents are marked. The customer is asked to sign the VCR and is handed a copy of the report. He has then the opportunity to check the car and ask for amendments in case he sees something he wants to put on the VCR. A copy of the VCR is in the car and another copy is attached to the rental agreement. This prevents that the customer gets charged for damages he is not responsible for.

Car breakdown
In the event that the vehicle malfunctions owing to wear or other reasons for which the renter is not responsible, Budget will supply him with another vehicle as soon as possible or ensure that a repair is to be completed as soon as possible at a location specified by Budget. The above does not affect the payment of the rent or any other charges payable by the renter hereunder. Budget pays no damages in cases such as here above provided, neither for accommodation nor other things. If damages occur to the vehicle while it is stationary and the driver is absent (e.g. car is parked) the driver must go to the nearest police station to report the damage. The same procedure applies if the vehicle is stolen.

Emergencies
In case of emergency call 112 immediately.

Insurances
Third Party Liability Third-party liability insurance and accident insurance for owner and driver will consist of the amount stipulated by Icelandic law at any given time. The renter’s own risk (also termed as “deductible”, i.e. the amount that the renter has to cover himself before an insurance company pays a claim) with regard to damage to the vehicle amounts up to the full value of the vehicle.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
This option limits the renter’s financial liability for damage to the Budget vehicle, its parts and accessories, except theft, attempted theft or vandalism, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. If CDW is declined, the renter will be responsible for damage up to the full value of the vehicle. CDW non-waivable excess: All rentals are subject to a non-waivable excess (N.W), ranging from ISK 100.000 to ISK 170.000, depending on the vehicle group rented, for which you are responsible in the event of damage to the vehicle during the rental. If you choose to rely on your credit card for cover, we strongly recommend that you fully understand the terms and conditions of any cover provided by your credit card company before you decline any of our optional services.

Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW)
The purchase of SCDW reduces the non-waivable amount of CDW to ISK 30.000 for passenger cars and ISK 50.000 for all other vehicles. It further covers the damage of the front screen window with a non-waivable excess of ISK 15.000.

CDW & SCDW does NOT cover:
- Intentional damage or damage due to gross negligence on the part of the driver - Damage resulting from the driver being under the influence of alcohol, stimulants or sedatives, or in any other way incapable of driving the vehicle in a safe manner - Damage due to race or test driving - Damage due to war, revolution, civil unrest and riots - Damage done by animals - Holes burned into seats, carpets, or mats - Damage affecting only wheels, tires, suspension, batteries, glass (incl. windows), radios, or loss by theft of parts of the vehicle and damage resulting from this. However, if SCDW is purchased the front screen window will be covered (nonwaivable excess applies) - Damage caused by driving on rough roads to the vehicle’s transmission, drive and other parts that are in or attached to the chassis; damage to the chassis resulting from the vehicle scraping bottom on rough roads, e.g., ridges being left by road graders; stones lodged in the road surface or on the shoulder of the road. The same applies to damage occurring when stones are thrown up, striking the underside of the vehicle during driving - Damage resulting from driving in places where vehicle traffic is banned, such as on paths, tracks, banks of snow, ice, beaches, places only accessible at low tide, or other trackless areas - Damage to 2wd vehicles that occur when driving on roads marked F on official maps as well as Kjölur (Road no. 35) and Kaldidalur (Road no. 550) - Damage caused by sand, gravel, ash, pumice, or other kinds of earth material being blown onto the vehicle - If the vehicle is transported by sea, a payment of an own risk fee does not cover damage caused by sea spray/seawater - Damage and loss that the lessor suffers if the vehicle is stolen - Water damage to the vehicle because of crossing unbridged rivers or streams.

Theft Protection (TP)
This option limits the renter’s financial liability for loss or theft of the Budget vehicle, its parts and accessories, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. If TP is declined, the renter will be responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing the Budget vehicle lost or damaged, following theft, attempted theft or vandalism up to the full value of the vehicle. All rentals are subject to a non-waivable excess fee, ranging from ISK 100.000 to ISK 170.000, depending on the vehicle rented, for which the renter is responsible in case of loss or theft of the Budget vehicle during the rental.

Budget Car Check
The cars are checked at the time of return by the parking attendant. They undergo a check at the return center where Budget staff looks over safety features of the car: 1. Tires (minumum 3 mm) 2. Oil (changed every 10.000 km) 3. Windows (clean and without chips or breaks) 4. Lights 5. Underbody damage 6. Seatbelts 7. Brakes 8. Parking brake 9. Window fluid 10. Gear fluid
